Cozy Beginnings

I started this quilt with my sewing buddy, WISE OLE' "E".  She is like have a wise ole' owl, but knows everything about quilting you may need to learn.  Our sewing day started around 8:30 Sunday the 6th of March and I decided to start a new project that she will be teaching.  I chose some yummy fabrics......warm and down right cozy..
I am always changing things and have chosen the green with a maroon dot on one side and on the other there is a stripe running thru the fabric......very unique. I am using the dotted green in place of the typical red for the center of a log cabin.  I will be using the striped side later in the border.
 Creams, chocolate brown and pinks.

Starting by sewing a normal log cabin and then when you are all done.......you are going to cut it up.  I know it sounds crazy, but it turns out so nice and it is a beautiful display of colors.

After cutting off corners and rebuilding a square,  squaring up to     8 1/4"----Not much left over so you have to be careful!

9 finished squares positioned  and ready to sew!  It looks really nice and I think it will add warmth to any bedroom!!

I am thinking this quilt will be named "COZY  BEGINNINGS"

The green center gives the block just the right pop and shows that you can step out of the box and make your own statement.   Go for it girls!!

Here comes the gift!!

I am working on a quilt that I am going to have quilted before June 18th. I have a wedding and plan to give this as a gift to the bride and groom.  With the top being totally finished....I should be able to start the quilting this week.
I really like the colors together....Cream with a little yellow flower it it, bright yellow and then some green to a navy blue.

It looks like a spring meadow in a rain storm.

I am thinking about a name for the quilt.....Meadow???  Any ideas?

Diaper Bag Complete

Purse/Diaper bag totally unfolded and ready for use!!

Starting to fold up or unfold

I have the diaper bag complete.  I am not good at following directions, for some reason I think I am smarter than written directions, once in a while I run into a few snags and have to rip out many times.  Maybe I'm not so smart after all!!   I added pockets to the diaper bag's pattern and changed the bow to a concho.  The pattern called for one pocket on the right and I put it on the left and a row of pockets on the right, because she is right handed.
Completely folded up and I must say it looks pretty darn good!

Finally recovered!!

It has been a while since posting.  My computer got a little virus--I'm sure it was from the frigid temperatures, don't you all agree??!!!  I have been missing my computer, but now I'm back with the technogeeks!
Thought I'd catch everyone up on what I have been up to besides feeding calves and bedding the barn.
Our daughter did not want the usual ole diaper bag, she wanted something that fits her style (western and different than anyone else), so I found the cutest pattern - it is a diaper bag that looks like a purse, but when you unfold it there is a nice clean place to lay the baby with everything you need right at the end of your fingers.  She chose fabrics that are a rust red that looks like tooled leather and a fabric with bronc riders on it, that says "ride em".  Really goes well with what they are and who she is!!
There are a lot of pieces to this pattern.  I think it will be something she will like and unique......NOBODY else will have this diaper bag!!

Frigid Tempuratures!!

This morning I looked out over the deck and saw the sun coming up over the creek and steam was rising--horses are frosted.  Seems to be too cold for man or beast, but look at the beautiful colors.

We are calving heifers right now, I know you all probably are saying to yourselves "it is really too cold to calve this early".  You would be right!!  I was asked to go North of our home about 11 miles to pick up the spouse and needless to say I wish I would have stayed home and told him I just couldn't leave the house.  Being the dutiful wife....I ventured out in a horrible snow blowing blizzard.  It took me 1 hour and 15 minutes to go 11 miles.  I could not see the road most of the time from the wind blowing and the snow.  Heavens, I have never seen it so bad.  I was so nervous by the time I got home, my stomach was in hug knots.  So, I am a widow this evening while he stays out at the calving barn to babysit all the babies, night calver and anything else that needs his help.  Stay in, stay warm, but be grateful for all the moisture.  Bless all!!

A Day of Joy!

Yesterday was filled with many blessings.  My new home had many visitors in it from friends to family and all in between.  Our daughter is expecting our first grandbaby and there was a shower at our home for her.  It was just amazing having so many women in our home and enjoyed the time we all had together.  My pictures are few and far between, because the person taking pictures took my camera card and well, let's just say I will have to wait to get some pictures.

I think she is an absolutely radiant little mommy!

She got some of the nicest gifts, every.  All things that they needed to make life a bit easier!

I have gotten done many quilts and I am finishing up the binding on the last quilt.  I am going to make a diaper bag that is unusual--our daughter wanted something that was not like anyone else, so..........................she gets what she wants.  It looks like a purse, but when unfolded it has a pad to lay the baby on and all the things needed right there.
